Wetland list

Western Red Cedar- Thuja plicata Description: Evergreen coniferous tree with scaly leaves, with flat needles. One baby tree found on the wetlands site. Salmonberry- Rubus spectablilis Description: Cinnamon colored twigs found in thickets. They have plenty of thorns all over. Colt’s foot- Tussilago farfara Description- Rhizome, the roots. Little bulbs, that are bud-like, are coming out of the ground at the wetlands at this moment. Sword fern – Polystichum munitum Description- large green leaves that are abundant on the wetlands site. They have generally tall leaves that sprout up from the ground. Red Alder- Alnus rubra Description- This deciduous tree can be identified by the cones and catkins that are at the end of the branches. Red Elderberry- Sambucus Description- this is a short, low to the ground plant with small clusters of flowers. Bleeding Heart Salal- Gailrhweia shallon Description- An Evergreen shrub found in one spot on the trail. The leaves have a glossy, leather-like feel to them. Sedge- Cyperaceae Description- Grassy water plant found all through out the site in the water. Devil’s Club- Oplopanax horridus Description- The shrub is low to the ground, with flat, spiny leaves, and is found on the southern edge of the site. Willow Description- this deciduous tree thrives in water areas. There is one on the site. Gooseberry Black Cap
